The ancient Greeks were the first to develop the notion of the atom—the smallest particle in the world and the building block of the universe. But their theory stayed unprove until the 1950’s when a new kind of microscope made it possible to see the atom, which showed it actually existed. And modern scientists haven’t stopped there. They broke the atom open, and what they found inside is part of its continuing story.
